Magnet Therapy

Magnet therapy is a much talked about alternative pain relief treatment these days. This is the reason that magnets are used in mattresses, belts, shoes bracelets and many other products and the demand for magnetic products is increasing tremendously. People in pain are now looking forward for soft treatments rather than taking pain killers and going under surgeries. The market of magnet therapy products is vast and growing with the time and you will find a wide variety of magnetic therapy products online for various purposes.

Types of Magnets:
There are two types of magnets static and permanent. But among the two the static magnet of different strengths are used for health purpose. The static magnet is incorporated in leg and arm wraps, shoe inserts, bracelets, mattress pads-pillows, hair brushes, necklaces and more. Also it is seen that individuals with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis or fibromyalgia who used magnets had noticed a significant decrease in pain.

How magnet therapy works?
For treatment thin, metal magnets of various sizes and strength are placed in close proximity to the painful areas of the body. The magnets produce a magnetic field which reduces the pain; according to some studies magnetic field causes changes in nerve cell function which results in blocking the pain signals while the other studies states that magnet relax capillary walls boosting the blood flow to the painful areas. The magnet strength is described in terms of “gauss” or “Telsa” and 1 Telsa is equal to 10,000 gauss. Magnets which are used for treatment have higher magnetic strength and therapeutic magnets generally in the range of 200 to 10,000 gauss.

Magnet Therapy not for everyone:
Every treatment has a cautionary measure to follow and same applies to the magnet therapy as well. For example magnet therapy is not recommended during pregnancy, patients with epilepsy, patients who are on blood thinning medications or suffering from internal bleeding. Magnet therapy should be avoided if the patient is having an internal heart pacemaker as the magnet will interfere with the signals to heart. Medical and health specialist recommends patients not to replace their conventional medicines with the magnet therapy. The patients are advised to consult their health providers before seeking the magnet therapy and in case of severe injury, pain or disease they should take conventional treatment.

Conclusion:
Magnet therapy is a billion dollar market which claims to cure many diseases. But it is also true that all individuals are not same and have their own medical and physiological state. It is not necessary that what works for one will be beneficial for another person. So it is advisable to consult a health provider before opting for magnet therapy.
